The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding its production facilities overseas, and doing business in France and Germany, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. The company saw North America as a growth market for Washlet bidets and toilets, in contrast to its "base" markets of Japan and China.
Dhaniram Toto was recording Toto words to ensure the future generations could comprehend them. However, many words were replaced with foreign ones, such as dui from Bengali for verandah.
Origins
The company was founded in 1917 and its early years mirrored Japan's economic development. In the first half, Toto manufactured goods to meet the demand for modern, new urban housing. It had the first tunnel kiln in the nation that could produce ceramics continuously. It also pioneered the use of automation to control production, which allows for greater efficiency and consistency.
In the late 1980s, the company began expanding overseas in order to take advantage of sales and new markets. It created the Cera Trading Company, importing and distributing other products from other manufacturers to complement its own range of sanitary earthenware and plumbing fittings. This strategy helped increase sales and increased the firm's market share in the world.
By the 1990s, Toto had shifted its focus on research and development of water-related household appliances. It also upgraded its distribution system to better meet the needs of its customers and increase profits. The company implemented a just-in-time approach to supply chain management and used the same approach in its sales program. This resulted in a greater level of customer satisfaction.
Toto has continued to innovate with regard to toilet technology. Its most recent toilet, for example, has a strong tornado flush that is more environmentally green than traditional toilets. The company also uses recycled water in its production process and has a green procurement policy. Apart from toilets, Toto produces bathtubs and faucets and hand dryers that are more energy efficient than conventional models.
The first museum of the company was opened in the year 2015, and it has exhibitions about Toto's iconic products and their evolution as well as its group companies (all that deal with ceramics) and the history of plumbing and products like bath units and, in a separate gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum also has a bathroom that features a WASHLET toilet as well as other toilet-related innovations.
Before the formation of Toto members of the group did sessions with various musicians. Boz Scaggs album Silk Degrees featured keyboardist David Paich as well as guitarists Mike Porcaro & Steve Lukather, drummers Jeff Porcaro & Steve Lukather. They also appeared on records by Steely Don, Seals and Crofts and Sonny and Cher.
Discography
You would expect a group with a name such as Asia to be a prog rock band, but it is actually a fairly straight forward rock group. The band was initially a four-piece and released two albums in 1979, the self-titled debut album and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. The group has a wide musical background, but their greatest success was in 1982 with Toto IV.
The album was a massive blockbuster, but it was not without its issues. The record companies put the band under pressure to deliver an album that was a success or else they would pull the album. Toto was able to achieve this feat with the help of the hit song "Africa."
Toto's musical mastery is due to their previous experiences, as the band members were session musicians for artists such as Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, and Seals and Crofts before starting the group. Their distinctive sound has become the standard for '80s music, influencing many contemporary artists.
The album starts out hard with songs like Running Out of Time or Unknown Soldier that show the band's ability to write fantastic AOR songs that slowly sink into your head. The album also includes some slow, jazzier tracks like The Little Things and Chinatown. And the album ends with Great Expectations, a song that combines folk with distortion AOR and should sound like a complete flop, but works wonderfully well.
After Toto IV, the band's fortunes began to decline. David Hungate left to concentrate on his solo career and the band went through numerous drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball left the band after drug charges. The band remained with Michael Porcaro, Steve Lukather and Michael Porcaro.
Toto released Isolation despite the turmoil. It wasn't as well-liked as IV. The band managed to release a chart-topping album, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. This album marked the end of Toto's lineup and the debut of Simon Phillips, a new singer.

Line-up
Turn Back, the band's third studio album it was a return to a classic sextet structure, and an even more consistent and powerful album with a sharper edge. Its edgier sound reflected the maturation of the group and featured drummer Bobby Kimball's greater ability on the drums and a more confident, mature vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. Keyboardist David Paich's work also was more refined, sharper and less cloned earlier recordings.
After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live performance in Amsterdam that was released as a two-CD set entitled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. The group released a brand new studio album a few months after, and went on a world tour to support the album. In this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.
In 1998, Paich and Lukather started exploring old demo tapes and tapes to make a new album featuring songs that had never been recorded before. The album was released in 2001 as a double album called Then and Now. It was the band's first album that did not contain one single track titled "A". The album also contained an previously unreleased track "Kari-Anne".
By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth album, Old Is New was a commercial failure and vocalist Williams was suffering from laryngitis, which limited his singing ability. Hungate also returned to Nashville and Leland Sklar's drumming duties were replaced by Shem Von Schroeck.
Downes along with the other original members of Asia--Wetton, Palmer, and Howe--convened an event in England in early 2006 to discuss the possibility of formally restructuring the band. This lineup, with the exception of Howe (who was busy with Yes at the time), eventually became known as Toto XIV and toured extensively.
In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The band also had a special guest appearance from singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
